Introduction to Computer Network

What is Computer Network?

A computer network is a collection of various computing devices that are connected using multiple paths for the purpose of sending/recieving data or media.

A sender send a data to the reciever while both sender i.e, client and reciever i.e., server are present on two different machines. The connection between them send packets i.e, data over the medium and this is tha main condition that the data send from the client must be exactly the same recieved by server and also understood by it.

There are various protocols and rules that are there present on both the side.

Computer Network can also include multiple devices/mediums which help in the communication between two different devices, ther e are known as Network Devices.

Functionalities of Computer networks are likely to be more than 70 but divided between mendatory and optional ones to reduce the system complexity for different applications.

The nodes of a computer network may include personal computers, servers, networking hardware, or other specialised or general-purpose hosts. They are identified by network addresses, and may have hostnames. Hostnames serve as memorable labels for the nodes, rarely changed after initial assignment. Network addresses serve for locating and identifying the nodes by communication protocols such as the Internet Protocol.

Computer networks may be classified by many criteria, including the transmission medium used to carry signals, bandwidth, communications protocols to organize network traffic, the network size, the topology, traffic control mechanism, and organizational intent.

Computer networks support many applications and services, such as access to the World Wide Web, digital video, digital audio, shared use of application and storage servers, printers, and fax machines, and use of email and instant messaging applications.
